An extensive two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and went back several hours later after the personnel became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, alongside police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and crew on the vessel were told that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the liner.
